Cesc Fabregas Arsenal Milan celebration point

Fans and pundits are hailing Arsenal's victory over Ac Milan at the San Siro but how did you rate their performance?

Former Gunners defender Nigel Winterburn told Sky Sports News he feels it was their best away performance in Europe but do you agree?

How does the win compare with their Thierry Henry-inspired triumph over Real Madrid at the Bernabau?

Where does it rate alongside other memorable efforts by British sides in Europe?

What about the man-of-the-match display by Cesc Fabregas? Skysports.com readers gave him a near-perfect 9.5 rating for his performance. Is he returning to his best form?

The Spaniard also believes Arsenal can go on and complete a Premier League and Champions League double. Do you agree?

Who will be their main threats on both fronts?

I think it was an absolutely wonderful performance and I am a Manchester united fan. However to say it was the 1st time an English team have beaten Milan in there own back yard is incorrect, considering there was only One english palyer playing for Arsenal on the night, and he cam on as a sub with 10 mins to go. That a-side, what a wonderful team.

I think it was a great performance considering the fact that it is AC Milan one of the best teams in Europe even if they are not playing at there best. Everyone says how there not doing well but I dont think Arsenal are at there best at the moment either so for Arsenal to beat them away which no other club from England has ever done it must show that the team is capable of winning both competition this year.

Excellent performance from the lads (or boys as they are referred to nowadays). The score line could easily have been 4 - 0. Arsenal are on the brink this season and too often other fans jump down their throats when they achieve something significant and good. All I can say is that I'm looking forward to the last week of March and early April (Liverpool, Chelsea and Man U all play us in that time frame) and let's see who has the last laugh -

Thanks you Martyn Cox, I totally agree! It was a good performance by Arsenal and they fully deserved the win but AC Milan are playing poorly at the moment, especially in their domestic league. I know I 'm always going to be biased but Liverpools win over Inter Milan surely was a more impressive win considering they hadn't even lost a game until that match?! However, I would still love to see all four teams through to the semis! What a great day for English football that would be!

I think Arsenal were absolutely brilliant! No matter how old a team is, if it's an AC Milan team, they are tough to beat. As a Liverpool supporter, and a very big one at that, I am sometimes jealous at the way Arsenal play, as we at Liverpool rely so heavily on Steven Gerrard and Torres, Arsenal have 8 to 10 gamebeaters, we have 2, maybe 3. Congratulations to Man U and Chelsea as well, especially Chelsea played very well. Now for Inter next week!!!

Arsenal are playing great football. But they can't say that it was the best cause Milan is not the Milan of last year. And Arsenal can't be said great as long as they have not won the cup. Liverpool and MAn utd were beaten by a fully fit Milan. So its better not to compare. But only the if Arsenal wins the cup then we can say they are great.

Martyn Cox (Reading fan) says...

You would expect Arsenal fans to be excited about what every other football fan sees as an average result. You only have to look at AC Milan in their domestic league to realise they have big problems. All Arsenal have done is beat a team that is suffering from poor form and have lost motivation. The Arsenal fans only make a big deal out this, just to disguise their team's own short comings as of late and to have some hope that their team will turn things around. The truth for all those who see through the OTT plaudits is that AC Milan are poor and Arsenal exposed their poor form in Europe as other teams have done in their domestic league. I was more impressed with Liverpool's win against Inter, who are playing very well and are top of their league. Arsenal needed to win this but this is nothing compared with Man United's 7-1 win against Roma and if Arsenal fans contest this they just prove they have no knowledge of football. Bottom line, a good win but certainly not amazing given AC Milan's current form. The age argument is irrelevant, it is AC Milan's form which cost them in Europe and any of the top English sides would have done the same as Arsenal in these circumstances.

Well done Gunners. Fantastic display worthy of a fantastic team. I've seen many performances this season but this has got to be one of the best. Looking at the comments here from the "Manure" fans, they obviously have a very short memory & can't seem, no matter what is blindingly obvious, to acknowledge that Arsenal are a stunning team to watch. Just swallow your selfish pride & appreciate it.

GOONERS!!!!!! What a spectacle, what a game, what a team, what amanager. I must admit that I was worried before the match but after the first 20 minutes I new that we had a real chance of going through. Fabregas has found the form that made him one of the best midfielders in the world, Flamini was awsome and Senderos (who sometimes frightens me) was a pillar of strength at the back. if we play like we played at the San Ciro we can win the PL and the CL this season. Man United and Liverpool fans can talk about the ageing Milan side but it was this same Milan side that beat them last season, but nothing was said about age then, then they were magnificent, what rubbish.

Absolutely great game! Have to say all my credit goes to Flamini- I'm a Arsenal fan for nearly a decade now and gave been watching Flamini struggle for a couple of years. This season belongs to him!!! Absolutely fantastic, took out Kaka and can take out absolutely everyone. He is the brightest star in Wengers team in my opinion. Cesc and Manu are fab but they wouldnt give their best if Mathieu wasnt doing his job in the back. He's like a great insurance policy. Now with Robin VP back i really believe we can win both CL and PL. One thing though- Diaby is a bright player but played bellow par on tuesday and so did Eboue- c'mon guys you have to react faster!!!

As a long-time Liverpool fan it pains me to say it but Arsenal are really playing stunning football! Milan showed in the first leg (and over the past 12 months - as I recall only too painfully) just how good they really are, yet Arsenal DEMOLISHED them! Wenger's amazing ability to find young talent is mind-boggling... miles ahead of Ferguson for sure! Whilst I wouldn't go as far as to call this one of the greatest European ties by a British side, it was pretty damn good! Hopefully given time Rafa can build up a Liverpool side to match the Gunners - at the moment it seems like the Torres/Gerrard Show, with little else to get excited about! Still, we're hanging in there - what a treat an Arsenal-Liverpool final would be!! Here in South Africa we see most of the PL games live (all the balance recorded) and all the CL games live, and I must admit I make a plan to watch pretty much every Arsenal game too nowadays (recorded when Liverpool play at the same time!) and they certainly have the credentials to beat off both Man U and Chelsea!!

Arsenal 'when' they are on top of their game produce very pleasing football. The consistency will come over a period of time if Wenger can keep hold of players. But, the fact that they beat Milan is in no way a surprise, at the CL level it is clear that the difference between the top teams is marginal, and over a period of a year, the team losing even 0.1% in any department is immense. That is epitomized by the humbling of Roma at OT last year, but they are still a good team. It is expected from Arsenal fans to celebrate this victory (all fans do) but labeling teams as 'great' so early is a mistake that EPL fans make very very often.

Mark Barron (Manchester United fan) says...

Arsenal certainly played well, but Milan played equally poorly. I don't think they would have got the same result had they not just been beaten so badly by Manchester United in the FA Cup. This turnaround can be partially accredited to Arsene Wenger; however, he is still miles behind Sir Alex in terms of quality as a manager. Personally, I wanted Arsenal to stay in the competition so that they are battling on more fronts. There is simply no way the Gunners can triumph in the Champions League and the Premiership. In fact, they will need exceptional luck and the performances of their lives to win either/or. Although I agree with Ronaldo, that in the spirit of the competition, I would prefer to draw a team from another European league, Arsenal would have to be my pick of the English teams for United to beat over two legs.

Aka Fung (Arsenal fan) says...

I agree that our performance in San Siro was brilliant but I also agree that we can do much better than last night. This 2:0 wasn't meant the same as the 2:0 at Highbury against Jusventus in 2006. We have not beat Milan as completely as that night did. (But maybe if the squad was complete there is a different story.) I would said that because I believe that ARSENAL can play more attractive, aggressive football what are all football fans would love to watch! And for Cesc Fabregas, I would say after this match there are more and more club would keep eyes on him! He is brilliant when he was 17 and now he is improving and being an world class MF! So if he said they can win both then I will keep faith in him as I know he can play football in a magical way!

People are quick to find excuses to justify what they want to prove is the right view. It is so plainly obvious from the comments that have been shared with regards to Arsenal. The comments fail to give an honest appraisal of a match between Arsenal and AC Milan. What has anything got to do with it? From this to jump to what may or may not happen with regards Arsenal vis any other team be it in the Premiership or CL is neither here nor there. When you start to talk all kinds of non sequtur after this match that took place in Italy yesterday just seems beside the point, if you get the drift. Do you want to talk about the coming match in the week? Wait until then. Do you want to talk about what happened in the past? What exactly is the point? I dearly love the sport of football when it is played well. I can, in all honesty, say that the match between Arsenal versus AC Milan was brilliant. I find it mouth-watering the experience this young squad is gaining this year will mean next year. I have been pleasantly surprised over the last nine months and I am very excited for the rest of the season. There is something building up in the squad and I am glad it is my team. The rest of you fans, in terms of sexy football you know which team has been serving it on a plate. That is football entertainment by any other name. Gooooooonnnneeerrrsss.

As expected Man U fans will jump on this Arsenal win giving excuses that Milan players are old, Kaka below par and so on. We all can see Arsenal dominated the midfield and stop Milan from playing and cut supplies to Kaka. Well, we don't say why Man U can lose twice to this aging players.

Flamini - Man of the Match..... Kaka didnt get more than thre strides with the ball before flamini took it off him, a sterling team performance with true style, grit and determination, demonstrated none more so than by Flamini.

All the comments made about Milan's ageing side has nothing to do with Arsenal's brilliance last night. Milan did have a few injuries but that isn't an excuse to write off Arsenal who's manager fields a bunch of kids. For me, Arsenal can still perform like last night again and could even battle to the final. Manchester United are the best team in the world in my opinion but even the best can slip - as did for Milan last night, reigning champions of Europe. All the best to Arsenal, who says they can't win the Double?

Posted 02:29 6th March 2008

Danyal Bajwa (Arsenal fan) says...

To say that Milan's team is ageing is absolutely true, but with age comes experience. Last year Milan beat Liverpool, and Manchester United, and they were still all about the same age. I can understand people using the excuse of age if Milan beaten both Man U and Liverpool several years ago. Liverpool and Manchester United both had their chances last year and failed to become the first english side to defeat Ac Milan. Also one must remember that Milan is one of the most dominant teams in the champions league no matter what their form is domestically. Arsenal contained Kaka, who had little involvment, and forced Milan to make foolish mistakes. Being both a Milan and Arsenal fan, mainly because of Maldini I feel Arsenal thoroughly deserved the win.

For all those Man United fans out there trying to belittle a club that has achieved what no other english side in history has done (beat AC Milan at Guiseppe Meazza) - Isnt it the same Milan side that humbled MAnchester United not once, but TWICE less than a year ago?
