There was no shortage of drama or incident in Manchester United's 4-1 win over West Ham at Old Trafford. The home side moved a step closer to retaining their title with an impressive win despite playing with ten men for over 50 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo maintained his rich vein of form with two goals to put United in control before Carlos Tevez came back to haunt his old club with a superb third. Dean Ashton pulled a goal back with a brilliant overhead kick before Nani got himself sent-off for head-butting Lucas Neill. Michael Carrick made the game safe for United in the second half with a deflected effort to round off the season at Old Trafford and pile the pressure on Chelsea.
What more can be said about the Portuguese international. Ronaldo took his tally to an amazing 40 goals for the season - 30 in the Premier League - with a brace in the 4-1 win against West Ham. Ronaldo got United off to a flying start with the opener after just three minutes. His second goal showed things go for you when you are on form when he bundled home the second goal with his thighs even though he knew very little about the goal. You would not bet against Ronaldo adding to his tally against Wigan next weekend after another memorable season.
Carlos Tevez refused to be overshadowed by Ronaldo as he scored the pick of the goals at the weekend.
The Argentine, who helped West Ham escape relegation last season, showed no sympathy to his old side as he picked up a pass from Ronaldo before smashing a fierce swerving shot past a startled Robert Green.
The Wigan keeper enhanced his England credentials with a commanding display at Villa Park. Kirkland's best save of the game came in the second when he managed to spring backwards to keep out Gabriel Agbonlahor's goalbound header. Kirkland's performance could only have impressed onlooking England goalkeeping coach Ray Clemence.
The Liverpool winger should hang his head in shame after scooping a golden opportunity over the bar in the Reds' 1-0 win against Manchester City. Fernando Torres tormented the City defence down the right and put the chance on a plate for his Dutch team-mate. However, with no defender in sight, Babel proceeded to lift the ball into the stands from just two-yards out. He had even reason to look sheepish after the incident, and was duly replaced by Yossi Benayoun just moments later.
Chelsea were nervously hanging on to a 1-0 lead at Newcastle before the England man entered the fray as second-half substitute. However, it took just over 15 minutes for him to present Florent Malouda with the opportunity to make the game safe. His slide-rule pass into the path of the Frenchman was perfectly weighted, and the Blues winger made no mistake as he hammered a low drive under Steve Harper to pull the Blues level with Manchester United at the top of the table.
Birmingham defender Franck Queudrue did his old club Fulham a favour in the relegation six-pointer at Craven Cottage. The Frenchman got his attempted header back to Birmingham goalkeeper Taylor all wrong allowing Erik Nevland to steal in and score Fulham's second goal and lift them out of the bottom three and leave Birmingham staring down the barrel of relegation.
Carlton Cole was left red-faced at Old Trafford as he delayed his own introduction to the action. Cole was due to come on for Dean Ashton before half-time, but had forgotten his shirt. By the time the kit-man had fetched it from the dressing room, Hammers boss Alan Curbishley had changed his mind. Cole eventually came on for Ashton in the 56th minute.
Olof Mellberg said goodbye to the Villa Park faithful as he prepares for his move to Juventus. The Swedish defender was given a tremendous reception before and after the game as he played his last game at Villa Park. Unfortunately Wigan spoiled his big day by running out 2-0 winners.
