Redknapp at Spurs

Your view on Spurs' new manager

Last updated: 26th October 2008

Harry Redknapp has confirmed that he is the new Tottenham manager and we want your thoughts on the move.

Juande Ramos is gone just a year after taking charge after the controversial departure of Martin Jol.

But despite winning the Carling Cup last season, Ramos has gone after guiding them to their worst ever start to a league campaign.

Is Redknapp the man to turn around Spurs' fortunes? What now for Portsmouth?

Please let us know your thoughts using the form below.

Harry has yet again proved that all great managers are inpirational. Confidence was all that was needed, but it had to come from the one guy who should be our English manager. Well done Harry and I wish you great success at one of our favourite clubs.

Hail Harry Hotspur!!! I, for one, am very pleased that the Ramos era has come to an end! And I am pretty sure that I would still be saying that had the last two results been different!... It felt different with Ramos in charge - something felt missing somehow?! (Keane)? I remember after last seasons Carling Cup final the press stating that under Ramos "the spurs team were playing for their positions / futures at the club" - and who was eventually sold - Keane and Berbatov - the two MAIN, (only) goal scorers!!! Also Paul Robinson, in my opinion at times a fantastic keeper, (season 1 @ Spurs- wow)! I know that Ramos had a "proven track record" but somehow it just didn't feel like Spurs under his management... Harry may do well for us - he has always missed out on the big time, and recently so have we - I wish him the best of luck and I support him, (unlike the recently departed)... Please Levy prove us all wrong for once, and back Harry - we can't keep sacking managers!... Let him revive the pride that we don't demand but know that we deserve. Glory. Glory.

Redknapp has done it again !!! Thank God, Hampshire are well rid of this "make believe" manager. The sooner this clown leaves football the better. He should join an orchestra the way he fiddles. This is the man who did his best to destroy Saints...and is about as welcome as a dose of Malaria. Conceited/arrogant/big headed/and as useful as a chocolate teapot !!! Retire Redknapp...do us all a favour...

Well good luck Harry. I have supported Pompey for over 50 years and seen the dark days in the seventies when we nearly went bust in the basement. It is a shame that H has gone to Spurs but now Tony is the King and we move on. Tony and big Joe will be awesome and Spurs... they will get relegated, Harry will get the sack and sorry mate we won't have ya back a third time. And don't try pinching our players, Pompey will be much bigger than Spurs once we get our new ground, the Pride of the South. Take the London clubs out of it and we are ths biggest club south of Aston Villa, Play up Pompey and lets move on.

Harry Redknapp is one of the few fine managers around (when it comes to producing good results). He still should have let this job pass by.

Come on Portsmouth, Harry has done you proud, got you right up the table in Europe and a cup in your cabinet . I would have thought that a bit of gratitude would not go a miss. I understand your disappointment but your great club will go on. Spurs have lost a number of Great players over the summer and while they were at our club they served us well, i wish them all the best for their future and don't begrudge them moving on for what ever the reasons. Now stop crying in your Beer and support the new manager even though i don't wish HIM well i wish Portsmouth FC well.

A sigh of relief, the first win of the season and Spurs along with their fans had better hope to God there's going to be more. While, let's face it. we are all very happy for Spurs, even you the Man U fan, even you the Arsenal fan or even you the West Ham fan, we all want maximum points against the team who has now become the virtual West Ham last a couple years back. Back then, Carlos Tevez emerged out of no where and single handedly put them back on course to stay in the Premier League, now it looks as though Harry Redknapp's the man to get Spurs sorry start to the season a kick in the right direction. Not that we don't know but just nailing the point, Spurs main goal this season has changed from breaking up the top four to fighting their way out of the relegation zone. By no means after a positive display against Bolton, the job is over, infact the job isn't even half over. I think it's safe to say now that the soap opera is over at White Hart Lane, everyone would be looking on to see how Harry Redknapp rallies his troops around in an effort to avoid an embarassing relegation. He's one really well for Portsmouth so his track record is really good, can he transfer it to the Lane? Well it all depends on the players, no time to rest though, no time to play, the road out of the relegation zone starts and ends with points. With Christmas fast approaching then the January transfer window, Spurs got a lot of work to do week in, week out, that's only if they want to crash the Spurs Relegation Party 2009. http://www.facebook.com/s.php?q=spurs+relegation+party+&n=-1&k=200000010&sf=r&init=q&sid=b4ea40740a9cc7c6cdaa769c71801038 Two fairytales can happen next February, either spurs can have "a bad start, happy ending" or "a bad start, sad ending." Fortunately for them, the future is in their hands, my advice, fight hard, play hard and whatever happens at the end of the season, still blame the staff for sacking Martin Jol!

Tottenham have done what they think is the best for their club so you can't blame them. In Harry they have a great man manager who will do them proud. Although he will pat himself on the back the whole duration and never really give the rest of the club, players any credit as he'll lap it up all for himself. I don't really begrudge Harry for going, he done Portsmouth proud over the years and had he not gone down the road to that other team he would be remembered with great fondness at Portsmouth. I hope he does ok and I'm sure he will. As for Portsmouth, I hope Tony Adams can do a good job for us.. I worry about his man management skills and his only previous job was a disasterous one at Wycombe... If we can keep Diarra and co. in January then we'll be fine. IF Sacha is going then lets hope it is to someone who is looking to invest and keep us where we are... Worrying times indeed.

I am a Newcastle United fan and I think that Harry Redknapp made the best decision of his life not to come to us last year. He has taken Pompey to FA Cup success and has now moved to a club with more resources. Albeit is is going to be challenging but if he does turn it round, which I think 95% people feel he will do, then next season I would tip Spurs to break into the top four - or at least challenge to. Newcastle missed out on Redknapp last year and that was a big loss for us, Spurs may just have made the best signing of the season. Tony Adams is good appointment for Pompey but I think a mass player exodus may be looming in January.

Dean Jules says...

Seems there are a few debates going on here: Big Club= Man U; L'pool; Arsenal; Everton; Notts Forest; Newcastle; Chelsea; Tottenham. All by virtue of history and having more silverware than the clubs not mentioned. Redknapp - Decent manager, Londoner and a shrewed man who knows his way around football pitch, bottom line: apart from Martin Jol, one of the best appointments Tottenham have made since Terry Venables. Portsmouth fans: sorry you lost a good manager. Not sorry for those of you who call Tottenham scum in one breath, yet are happy to welcome Jermaine Defoe, Noe Pamarot, Sol Campbell and Sean Davis. Hipocrates! Couldn't be bothered when everything is going your way - piss and moan when you feel hard done by.

I was surprised that Harry went to Spurs as both Pompey and Spurs in European football.I am by no means Spurs fan nor do i hate them,I mean they did sell use Keano. I rate Redkhapp very highly as a manager and belive he should have had the England job. It is a fantastic move for Spurs to get Harry as manager and I wish Harry the best of luck now he has taken on the job and belive he will do well there, possible they will win a few cups under harry but I can`t se them as league winners nor will they breaking into the top 4.then again Hull are doing a great job of that..

Please be serious spurs 7th place and a cup.. who's this guy kidding. Spurs a best top 12. though i doubt it. I hope they go down. Clearly the club has no sense selling 3 of your strikers and no bringing in adequate replecements.. thats like liverpool selling torres, keane and kuyt or Man u selling berbatov, tevez and rooney

Good luck Harry and Tottenham. Let's see if we could qualify for European competition next season. Hope Levy leaves Harry to do his job. Hope we beat Arsenal on Wednesday and liverpool over the weekend. That will make my week. GO SPURS GO.

Pompey fan Ian (Portsmouth fan) says...

Redknapp showed his true colours this weekend, after the comments that he courted the Pompey fans with. "Pompey will be the last club I manage", "this is my spiritual home" I won't go on, don't want to embarass redknapp do we. Just a big thanks for being a man of your word, shame all the things you say you don't believe. He's screwed Pompey over, be warned for the future Spurs, a leopard never changes his spots. Good bye & good ridence to Judas

Markus Coverdale (Hull City fan) says...

Smart move for Spurs and a risky one for Redknapp. Spurs need a manager with some guts and spirit like Redknapp and I hope he does a great job there. On the flip side I think that Harry has put his career on the line accepting this job. Past has proven that unless there is an immediate impact Spurs will not hesitate to sack the manager...even a poor run could end up in his departure.

About time Spurs bring in someone with strong managerial skills. No whingeing player will be safe. His passion will transmit across the board to the fans. Football is about results, not loyalty - remember that to some of you out there!

As aTottenham fan from my youth, I am delighted that the club has got a manager who will do very well. However, I've lived on the south coast for twenty three years and consider Portsmouth to be my second best team. I am so surprised that this move has happened. What happened to club loyalty? I don't think Tottemham should have poached Harry which put him in a very difficult decision. He has disappointed Portsmouth and the fans .- for the second time. Good luck to Harry at Spurs but I regret his disloyalty at Portdmouth.

David Elkington (Portsmouth fan) says...

The words "my spiritual home" & " Pompey Till I Die" are true feelings of every Pompey supporter but to Harry "Judas" Redknapp they are meaningless. How dare he say those things to reporters and not mean them especially after he left us to join the scum. I appreciate everything the man has done for our club but I can't forgive the way he's treated the suporters, not once, but twice. Portsmouth is an honest, hard working city and no other team has the passion we have, and I can honestly say this after watching Pompey for 33yrs. The concern now is where and how do we move on after this glorious period in our clubs history? Firstly the owner or director should come out and be honest about the clubs financial position, will we need to sell players to balance the books, can we afford a top manager or is Adams & Jordan getting the nod as it saves money? Does Sasha want out or does he want to give us a life after Harry? So many questions need answering and the fans deserve the truth after being deserted by Harry. As for Spurs, Harry & Kevin Bond to save you? The dream team that was in place to save Southampton, good Luck boys I hope you get the same fate as the Scum. If we can get a Manager in the for me I would like Alan Curbishley or Neil Warnock

Gary Dennie says...

I think that Tottenham is and will always be a club that needs to have a manager that has London roots, in fact I think that the majority of UK based sides need that, if you look at Harry's team selection each week it is littered with homegrown talent, that I feel are just as competent as foreign buys, don't get me wrong and hate to say it but Arsene has created a football playing team over the years, but since he arrived they have never finished outside the top 8 that only has one in it but he had done that over seasons!@! Not one.. And to be ranked 2nd for the highest transfer spend is a liberty & then to be where we are diabolical liberty... I honestly believe that Harry should of been their after he left West Ham.. We are definitely going to be looking at a top 5 finish now he is here. To have Ramos / Poyet at the helm was the biggest mistake we made. Under Burkingshaw we played good football and we caused teams problems and was even better under Venables.. Bring in Venners as well or Mabutt .. or even Tony Adams (dread I say it).. Let em keep Defoe as well.
