Ibrahimovic: Barca hero
Barcelona vanquished Real Madrid in El Clasico, Celtic leapfrogged Rangers in Scotland while Inter Milan left it late before seeing off Fiorentina.
Elsewhere, Bordeaux are now two points clear at the top in France, Bayer Leverkusen lead the way in Germany while FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven both remain unbeaten in Holland.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic's emphatic volley proved the difference as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 1-0 at Camp Nou. The result ensured Barca climbed two points above Real at the Spanish summit.
Elsewhere, third-placed Sevilla were held to a 2-2 draw against Malaga, Valencia were denied three points in the dying minutes versus Mallorca, Atletico Madrid ended their poor run of form while there were six goals at Getafe.
Celtic leapfrogged Rangers at the top of the SPL table after the latter suffered a shock loss. The Hoops were 3-1 victors in their clash against St Mirren, but Gers slumped to a 1-0 defeat as Aberdeen's Lee Miller struck in the first half.
Hibernian remain third in the division after a brace from Derek Riordan saw off Falkirk, Kilmarnock suffered a fourth straight loss against Hearts while Jon Daly salvaged a point for nine-man Dundee United at Motherwell.
An 85th minute penalty from Diego Milito ensured leaders Inter Milan beat Fiorentina 1-0 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza to move seven points clear. AC Milan, meanwhile, rose to second after a dramatically late brace from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar at Catania.
Elsewhere, Juventus slumped to a surprise 2-0 defeat against Cagliari and Genoa cruised to a 3-0 win over city rivals Sampdoria in a heated game that saw three players sent off.
Bordeaux opened up a two-point lead at the top of the table in France after they cruised to a 3-0 win over Nancy. Second-placed Lyon, meanwhile, stuttered to a third straight draw against Rennes.
Paris St Germain brought an end to Auxerre's superb form as Jeremy Clement bagged the only goal of the game at Parc des Princes while Lille recorded a thumping 4-0 success in their clash against Valenciennes.
A Stefan Kiessling hat-trick helped inspire Bayer Leverkusen to a 4-0 win over Stuttgart. But Werder Bremen could only draw as Per Mertesacker snatched a late leveller versus Wolfsburg, meaning Werder are now three points behind leaders Leverkusen.
Bayern Munich are up to fourth in the standings after they strolled to a 3-0 win over Hannover, while a fifth minute goal from Borussia Monchengladbach's Marco Reus ensured Schalke lost their first game in eight outings.
FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven were both victorious in Holland. Leaders FC Twente recorded a 10th win on the spin as they saw off Willem II 3-1. PSV, meanwhile, came from behind to beat Sparta to ensure they remain within two points of the pace-setters.
Elsewhere, third positioned Ajax were emphatic 5-1 winners against Vitesse while goals from Ron Vlaar and substitute Andwele Slory sealed a 2-0 victory for Feyenoord against ADO Den Haag.
Olympiakos lead the way in Greece after they claimed a 2-0 home win over rivals Panathinaikos, Turkish leaders Fenerbahce slumped to a second successive loss, Anderlecht maintained their fine form in Belgium while Benfica and Braga both dropped points in Portugal.
