Blackburn manager Mark Hughes was full of praise for Roque Santa Cruz after he scored twice in their 3-1 win over Derby.

Rovers came from behind to beat struggling Derby with goals from Santa Cruz and Jason Roberts.

Hughes was pleased that his side came back from a goal down and dominated with their second half display.

"They played very well in the first half and we found it difficult to play our normal passing game," said Hughes.

Drive and determination

"We got a goal at the right time for us, right on the stroke of half time. We came out in the second half with more drive and determination and then ran away winners.

"We keep going and that's how we try and prepare the team, we don't slack off. We'll keep going until the end of the season.

"The way we came out second half was really encouraging. They knew that the first half performance wasn't what we expect of them."

Santa Cruz's two goals ensured he is on course to bag 20 Premier League goals this season but Hughes insists he is satisfied with his entire team.

Impact

"We've had some outstanding performances and performers this year," he added.

"His (Santa Cruz) goals and performances speak for themselves. It's good that in his first season he has made so much of an impact.

"Hopefully we'll have some money to get some more players in and hopefully continue in the same vein.

"We haven't been out of the top ten all season and that's a great credit to us."
