Roy Keane was delighted with Sunderland's late draw at Birmingham, but unhappy with his side's display.

The Black Cats needed a last-gasp header from Stern John to snatch a point after Garry O'Connor had put Blues in front for a second time.

The visitors were flat for much of the contest, although cancelled out Paul McShane's own goal in the first half through Michael Chopra's fine 75th minute strike.

"I'm delighted with the result. I don't think the performance was great," said Keane.

"The players had a great desire to get a result. Maybe a draw was a fair result."

Keane hailed his side's character after they finished the game a man light when Carlos Edwards went off injured after all three substitutes had been used.

"It makes it an even better result," he continued. "The players kept going, they deserve all the credit for that.

"We've got a half-decent result and now we have some lads fresh for Saturday."
