Pride Park: Birch exit

Derby have announced that Trevor Birch has ceased to be employed as the club's chief executive.

The Rams appointed Birch in June 2007 when he replaced Mike Horton's role of managing director.

Birch has also had spells as chief executive at Chelsea, where he helped oversee current owner Roman Abramovich's takeover, and Leeds.

It was recently reported Birch suffered a breakdown in his relationship with manager Billy Davies, but the Rams boss denied there was any problem between them.

A statement on Derby's official website said: "Derby County Football Club have announced that Trevor Birch has ceased to be employed as its chief executive officer with immediate effect.

"Please note there will be no further comment from the club."
