Gary Megson believes Bolton will survive with the level of performance they showed against Aston Villa.

The Trotters were denied all three points at The Reebok Stadium when Luke Moore netted a controversial equaliser which cancelled out Nicolas Anelka's stunning free-kick.

Megson was especially pleased with the first half display, as Bolton deservedly took a lead into the break thanks to Anelka's magic.

"I think we will survive if we play like we did in the first half," he said in The Mirror. "I thought we played some really good stuff."

More performances like the one against Villa will help Megson win over the Bolton faithful who questioned his appointment by chairman Phil Gartside.

Sorry

The new manager did not respond to the fans' calls to give them a wave after Anelka's goal, but he says it was nothing sinister.

Megson explained: "I didn't hear it. I'm a lot of things but I'm not rude or ignorant. If I've offended anyone I apologise for that.

"Our supporters were fantastic and behind the team, me and the people at the club. We could not have played like that without that quality of support."
