Bullard: Nearing return

Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard has taken part in training with the rest of the first-team squad as he closes in on a return to competitive action.

Bullard has been out of action since sustaining knee ligament damage in Fulham's Premier League clash against Newcastle in September 2006.

He has been training with the youth squad and the reserve team, and this week was involved in non-contact sessions with the first team.

"I felt like a football player again, it felt good being alongside the boys," he said. "To play football again is like a dream come true.

"I'm not into the stage of contact yet, that's the next stage - to have a few tackles."

Bullard could make his long-awaited return before Christmas but he insists he will not rush back.

He explained: "I've got a meeting with the physio at the end of the week and we'll talk about the next stage. It's week by week.

"This is the main stage and I'm getting really close but we'll take our time."
