Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will reportedly be given a testimonial by Manchester United next summer.

The Norwegian was forced to retire at the start of the season due to a persistent knee injury which had restricted his impact in recent years.

He has since taken up a position on Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching staff and remains a popular figure at the club.

Solskjaer is now expected to receive a testimonial at Old Trafford next year, as part of the club's pre-season programme.

United undertake a three-match to South Africa next summer and the Solskjaer game would be slotted in upon the players' return.

No date, or opposition, has yet been confirmed, although Bayern Munich could be approached to play.

Solskjaer famously scored an injury-time winner against the German side to secure United the 1999 UEFA Champions League trophy in Barcelona.

During his Old Trafford playing career, Solskjaer scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for the club after joining from Molde in 1996.
