Joey Barton is due to appear in court on Wednesday facing charges of assault and affray.

The Newcastle midfielder was arrested in Liverpool on 27th December following a Boxing Day night out with friends.

It is alleged he and other members of the group were involved in two separate incidents following a row with another group inside a McDonald's restaurant in Church Street, Liverpool.

Barton, aged 25, of Widnes, Cheshire, was subsequently charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

The player's brother, Andrew Barton is also charged with actual bodily harm and affray and Nadine Wilson is charged with common assault and affray.

All three will also appear at Liverpool magistrates.

Following his arrest last month, Barton was remanded in custody for a week but released on bail by Liverpool Crown Court on 3rd January
