Manchester United expect Paul Scholes to be given the green light to resume full training next Thursday.

The former England international midfielder has missed the last three months of action after undergoing a knee operation at the end of October.

However, Scholes is nearing a first-team return and assistant manager Carlos Queiroz, for one, is looking forward to the midfielder's long-awaited return.

Sir Alex Ferguson's right-hand man has even hinted Scholes could play a part in next weekend's FA Cup clash with Tottenham at Old Trafford.

"We think next Thursday the medical staff will give clearance for Paul Scholes to start full training and playing," said Queiroz.

"The FA Cup is a possibility. We hope after clearance next Thursday that he can at least be on the bench.

"To have Paul Scholes, Louis Saha, Gerard Pique and Gary Neville coming back at the end of the month is fantastic news for us."
