John Carew has backed Aston Villa team-mate Ashley Young to establish himself in Fabio Capello's England side.

David Bentley impressed on England's right flank against Switzerland but Carew believes Young, who appeared as a late substitute in the Wembley friendly, shows as much promise as the Blackburn man.

Young's performances this term have certainly caught the eye, with Carew often the benefactor of the player's pinpoint deliveries.

Great future

And if Young continues to sparkle at Villa Park, Carew can see no reason why he cannot establish himself in the international arena.

Carew said: "Ashley is really a young player with a great future. He has done the business for Villa and I think he can do it for England also.

"People have been talking about David Bentley, who is a very good player, but I think Ashley can have a similar impact with England.

"He causes defenders lots of problems and is also so dangerous at set pieces. Against Newcastle, the delivery from Ashley for my first goal was fantastic and he has done it so many times over the past year."
