Juande Ramos insists his Tottenham side still have work to do before they can mount a serious challenge on a top-four spot in the Premier League.

The Spurs boss led his side to their first piece of silverware in nine years with Carling Cup success over Chelsea, however the former Sevilla boss believes his side need to become more consistent to claim a top-four finish.

"We still cannot be considered one of the big teams," Ramos told Sport.

"We are not at the same level as United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool.

"We are closer but we have to continue working from game-to-game, although the trophy will make things slightly easier.

"There are still many defects yet to polish and we need to exploit our virtues more.

Delighted

"When I came I found a team that let in a lot of goals, but also found it easy to score them.

"The players have a lot more belief if results are good and they see that they can win all these games."

The Spanish boss is delighted with his early success at the helm, and he was quick to pay tribute to his players' commitment and effort since his arrival at White Hart Lane last year.

"The only secret is hard work and that is something that I have always known clearly," said Ramos.

"Here at Tottenham that has been applied well.

"I have discovered a squad that is willing to grow and that has been fundamental."
