Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson has been confirmed as an ambassador for the club.

Robson, who scored 98 goals in 461 appearances during 13 years at Old Trafford, will work alongside fellow United legend Sir Bobby Charlton in his new role.

He will help the Premier League champions to 'promote its commercial and charitable aims' for an initial period of 12 months.

The ex-England midfielder expressed his delight at being offered the opportunity to be part of the United setup again.

Special

"I'm delighted to have the chance to work alongside Sir Bobby Charlton and to be such a central part of Manchester United's future," Robson told the club's official website.

"Since signing for the club in 1981, it has always been special to me.

"I enjoyed the happiest and most memorable times of my career at Old Trafford and it will be great to play a role in making the club even more successful."

United chief executive David Gill said: "Bryan Robson was the outstanding player of his generation. Skilful, fearless and totally committed, he is someone who remains close to the hearts of anyone who saw him play.

"His relationship with Manchester United supporters is second to none and I look forward to working with him for the benefit of the club, the team and the fans."

Robson left his position as Sheffield United boss in February and has also managed Middlesbrough, Bradford City and first club West Bromwich Albion.
