Wigan are set to offer Paul Scharner a new deal in the summer to keep him at the club.

The Austrian has been one of Wigan's star performers since the arrival of Steve Bruce and he has been instrumental in their climb away from trouble at the wrong end of the table.

Scharner, who was a target for Fulham during the January transfer window, has just over a year to run on his current contract and Wigan are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

The 28-year-old says he is happy at The JJB Stadium and will consider Wigan's offer at the end of the season.

"The manager wants to talk about making [his contract] longer, but I said let's get the season over first," Scharner told The Mirror.

"I'll have a look and see what the offer is. I am happy here."
