Mascherano: Maradona respect

Liverpool's Javier Mascherano has hailed the support he has received from Argentina legend Diego Maradona.

The tenacious midfielder has impressed at Anfield since he moved from West Ham in January 2007, tallying 34 starts this campaign.

And the 23-year-old, who penned a four-year contract with The Reds in February, has praised his compatriot Maradona.

"I have a good relationship with him. For me, Maradona is like a God. He is a good man for me and is always there supporting me," Mascherano said.

"Maradona is always trying to push me and trying to tell me if I'm doing the right things or not. When I was injured he was supportive."

Monster

Maradona, meanwhile, regards Mascherano as one of Argentina's best young talents.

"Of all the youngsters to have come through from Argentina in recent years, he's the one who impresses me the most," he said.

"He's a monster of a player and destined for greater things."
