Dimitar Berbatov's agent claims 'seven or eight' clubs are interested in signing the Tottenham Hotspur striker.

The Bulgaria international's future at White Hart Lane continues to be debated, with a clutch of leading European sides having been linked with summer bids.

Berbatov has previously stated he is happy at Spurs, while manager Juande Ramos considers interest in the 27-year-old a compliment.

The player's agent Emil Dantchev, though, claims that he has 'given up' on discussing a new contract for Berbatov with Spurs.

He has two years remaining on his present deal, with an option for a further two seasons, but Dantchev insists Berbatov's future is up in the air.

UEFA Champions League football is a temptation for Berbatov and Dantchev has hinted that he is looking to secure the gifted forward a move.

Needs to win trophies

"His future will be decided in the next couple of months," Dantchev told the Evening Standard.

"We have twice given up talks about Berbatov's new contract and this is due to the fact that Tottenham are unwilling to fix Berbatov's transfer price.

"He is 27-years old and he needs to win trophies. It is time he was transferred to a club that regularly plays in the Champions League.

"There are seven to eight clubs in Europe interested and we know them well."
