Carson: Impressed for Villa

Scott Carson admits he is in the dark over whether his long-term future lies with Liverpool or Aston Villa.

The England international has spent the season on loan in the Midlands, where he has impressed Villa boss Martin O'Neill.

It has been widely reported that the Ulsterman is keen to have Carson back at Villa Park next season but whether it will be on a permanent or loan basis is subject to conjecture.

Next step

Carson admits he has enjoyed his time with Villa and while he is unsure as to whether he will be part of the club's future, the 22-year-old predicts bright times ahead for O'Neill and his side.

"I don't know what's going to happen, but hopefully the team do well," he said in the Birmingham Mail.

"You only have to look at the squad, there are a lot of young players there and even the younger ones coming through are very talented.

"Hopefully the manager will keep adding to it and developing it so the team can push on to the next step."

Valuation

The uncertainty which continues to surround Carson's next move is partially down to the inordinate transfer fee placed on his head by Liverpool.

Rafa Benitez is believed to be asking for somewhere in the region of £10million for the talented stopper, and Carson believes that valuation should be lowered in order to allow him to find regular first-team football.

"It's too much It's stupid money really. You pay £10million for a goalkeeper who is 27, 28 and the finished article," he said.

"To be honest, I'm far from the finished article. I have got another five years of learning.

"I don't think Liverpool are stupid. They know what I'm worth. They would have recouped what they paid for me in loan fees over the last couple of years.

"So hopefully, they can help me out and if there is a sniff of going somewhere, then hopefully they will respect my wishes and help me that way."
