Milan have rejected an approach from Chelsea to hold discussions with their manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Blues are currently on the lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Avram Grant and have been linked with the likes of Luiz Felipe Scolari, Roberto Mancini and Ancelotti.

The former Parma boss was an obvious choice for the ambitious Premier League side, having led the Rossoneri to one Serie A title and two UEFA Champions League successes during seven years at Giuseppe Meazza.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani admitted that the club were flattered to have received interest in their coach, but confirmed that they will not be allowing Ancelotti to speak with any potential suitors.

"He has not met Chelsea, because the English club asked for our permission and naturally everything stopped there," Galliani told Milan's official website.

"He and another Italian coach were at the top of Chelsea's list.

"The fact that our coach is sought after and esteemed pleases me a lot but Carlo Ancelotti will remain Milan's coach."
