Heinze & Ronaldo: Discussions
Gabriel Heinze is pestering his former Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo to join him at Real Madrid.
The transfer saga of the summer shows no sign of abating, with Sir Alex Ferguson likely to be fuming at the news that his Portuguese prodigy is being tapped up by close friends.
United have already tried, and failed, to get Fifa to discipline Real over their incessant tracking of the winger, while the Spaniards show no sign of letting up in their pursuit of their No. 1 transfer target.
Real have a history of getting what they want and have made it clear that they are prepared to break the bank in order to secure the services of a player who is arguably the best on the planet at the moment.
The Primera Liga champions are wary of breaking any rules regarding illegal approaches to players, but will be pleased to hear that a member of their first-team squad is putting in the leg work for them.
Argentinean defender Heinze struck up a close relationship with Ronaldo during his time at Old Trafford and admits that he is doing his best to persuade the 23-year-old to make a move to the Spanish capital.
"I talk with Cristiano all the time and I tell him how great this club is and the nice things that Madrid has," Heinze said in the Daily Star Sunday.
"I would love to play alongside him again.
"He's a kid who is already spoke highly about all the time in Madrid. If I had to pay for one player I would choose Cristiano. In Madrid we would welcome him with open arms.
"I don't think he would have any problem adapting to any team in the world. Players of his quality fit in anywhere.
"I don't think Cristiano will get any better as a footballer, he is already next to God in his ability. But while Sir Alex is at United, it's going to be difficult for him to go.
"He is a fundamental part of their plans."
