Zuiverloon: Wants to progress

Tony Mowbray has expressed his delight after Gianni Zuiverloon completed his move to West Bromwich Albion.

Heerenveen confirmed on Wednesday that the defender would be leaving the Dutch club to join the Premier League new boys.

Zuiverloon has now signed a three-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months, with the Baggies paying a £3.2million transfer fee.

The full-back impressed at last summer's European Under-21 Championship and Baggies boss Mowbray is confident the youngster will be a valuable addition to his squad.

"Gianni's a player that originally came to my attention during pre-season last year when we played Heerenveen," Mowbray told the club's official website.

Very talented

"We've followed his progress throughout the season and I'm delighted he has agreed to join us.

"From our point of view we've got a very talented, young footballer who is eager to prove his qualities at the highest level.

"He has good defensive qualities, is a good athlete, is comfortable on the ball and wants to improve.

"He will add good competition for places to the squad and is another piece in the jigsaw.

"Hopefully he is the first of a few new signings to come in as we continually look to improve the squad."
