Viduka: Keen to leave his Mark

Newcastle United striker Mark Viduka is determined to make more of an impact on Tyneside in the new season.

Viduka signed at St James' Park from rivals Middlesbrough last summer, but his debut term with Newcastle was brought to a premature end after he underwent surgery on a niggling Achilles problem.

However, the Australian, who struck seven goals last season, is reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery and is looking to the forthcoming campaign.

"It probably didn't go as well as I wanted in my first season, but sometimes things don't work out the way you want them to," he told the Evening Chronicle.

On his future at Newcastle, the 32-year-old said: "I've got this year left on my contract and then the option of another."

Viduka also reserved praise for Kevin Keegan, who returned to manage the club in January.

He added: "Kevin is a very good manager to work for. He's so positive and very knowledgeable about the game.

"It's a pleasure to work with him and I'm looking forward to that for the new season."
