Meite: No West Brom bid

Tony Mowbray has played down reports that West Bromwich Albion have made an offer for Bolton Wanderers defender Abdoulaye Meite.

The Ivory Coast international is tipped to leave the Reebok Stadium over the summer and has been linked with West Brom.

Speculation has suggested that the Baggies had an offer in excess of £1million turned down by former manager Gary Megson's current club.

However, present West Brom boss Mowbray says there is nothing in the pipeline regarding a deal to take Meite to the Hawthorns.

"There's nothing happening there," said Mowbray in the Bolton News.

"If comments have come out of Bolton then that's disappointing, but it's just speculation and no more."

Meite is interesting fellow Premier League new boys Hull City, but Phil Brown is reluctant to meet the rumoured £3million asking price.
