Neville: In action against Aberdeen
Gary Neville is hoping to be given another run out against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
The Manchester United defender is continuing his rehabilitation from a long-term injury and is keen to ensure that he is match-fit in time for the start of the 2008/09 campaign.
He came through a friendly date with Aberdeen last week unscathed and is now looking to be involved again during the Red Devils' involvement in the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa.
The England international was restricted to just 45 minutes against the Dons at Pittodrie, but is adamant that he is ready for action should he be called upon again at the Newlands Stadium this weekend.
"From a personal point of view the game against Aberdeen was the first rung on the ladder as it was the first time I had performed for 14 months," said the club captain.
"The game against Kaizer Chiefs will be a lot more difficult match but if I am given the opportunity I would look forward to it. It is exciting."
With the prospect of a full pre-season behind him Neville is also looking to make up for lost time, after being forced to watch United's domestic and European successes from the sidelines last term.
"I was frustrated at not being part of what was a great time for the club," he said.
"I hope these pre-season games help my fitness and sharpness in what should hopefully be another successful season."
