Kuyt: Ready to fight for place
Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has insisted he would welcome the arrival of Robbie Keane from Tottenham.
Spurs have complained to the Premier League about Liverpool's pursuit of the player, with Rafa Benitez making no secret of his desire to sign him.
Speculation has suggested that the Republic of Ireland international could be close to sealing a move to Anfield.
There is already fierce competition for places in the Liverpool attack and if Keane joins that could make it more difficult for Kuyt to hold down a regular spot.
However, the Dutchman, who often played on the right of midfield last term, is more concerned about the welfare of the team.
He believes that Keane would strengthen the side and aid Liverpool in their hunt for silverware.
"Keane has played for many years in the Premier League and he has done really well with Spurs and is a massive player for them," Kuyt told the Liverpool Echo.
"We all know how well he did for Spurs last season and if he could do the same for us if he came here he would be a great signing.
"When you are at a club like Liverpool you expect the club to be linked with top players and of course you want players like Keane because they can come in and do a good job.
"It would make competition for places even tougher, but that's the way it should be because it brings out the best in you.
"We are always looking at the papers to try and find out what is going on and we expect a few more signings but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see."
