Keane: Third new signing

Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Irish midfielder David Meyler from Cork City.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and could make his debut for the Black Cats against Cobh Ramblers in his home country on Monday.

Meyler follows former team-mate Roy O'Donovan from Turner's Cross to the Stadium of Light.

The highly-rated midfielder admits it did not take long for him to accept Sunderland's offer and he has set his sights on breaking into the first team.

Ambition

"I'm here to succeed," Meyler told the club's official website. "My ambition is to break into the first team as soon as I can. I want to do it here, and hopefully I can.

"Roy Keane is a legend where I come from. Everyone grew up watching him play and that included me.

"He's given me a great opportunity here with Sunderland and obviously I'll hopefully repay him."

Meyler is Keane's third signing of the week following the arrivals of

Teemu Tainio and Nick Colgan, and the Black Cats is hoping to finalise deals for Pascal Chimbonda, Younes Kaboul and Steed Malbranque.
