Michael Johnson has been offered a new five-year contract by Manchester City, skysports.com understands.

The England Under 21 international has been holding talks with the club, despite having three-years left on his current deal.

New City boss Mark Hughes is desperate to keep hold of Johnson, who has emerged in recent seasons as one of the finest prospects in English football.

Johnson's progress has not gone unnoticed elsewhere and a host of top clubs are understood to be keeping tabs on the 20-year-old midfielder.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton are all thought to be keen on taking the Manchester-born starlet.

However, City are hopeful that Johnson will soon put pen-to-paper on the new deal as talks continue with his representatives.
