Torres: Opened the scoring

Liverpool put in a classy pre-season display to brush aside SPL giants Rangers 4-0 at Ibrox.

Fernando Torres gave Rafa Benitez's side a half-time lead before second half efforts from David Ngog, Yossi Benayoun and Xabi Alonso completed the comfortable win.

Spanish ace Torres opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when he tapped home from six yards out after Alan McGregor could only palm Damien Plessis' shot into his path.

Both sides made five changes apiece during the interval, although The Reds continued to maintain their stranglehold on the contest.

Increased their lead

The visitors increased their lead shortly before the hour mark when recent signing Ngog strolled past three defenders before slotting home into the bottom left-hand corner.

Two soon became three when McGregor could only palm a cross into the path of Benayoun who gratefully netted from just a few yards out to end Gers' resistance.

Xabi Alonso wrapped up the scoring from the penalty spot in the 71st minute when Kirk Broadfoot conceded a penalty after fouling substitute Kristian Nemeth in the box.
