Striker Kanu has ended speculation over his future by signing a new one-year contract with Portsmouth.

The Nigerian had been linked with a move away Fratton Park after he suggested he was looking for more than just an additional 12-month stay.

But further talks with manager Harry Redknapp and chief executive Peter Storrie have persuaded the 32-year-old to put pen to paper.

Kanu, who scored the winning goal in last season's FA Cup final victory over Cardiff, will earn a similar extension at the end of this season if plays a set number of games.

He told the club's official website: "I love it here and I want to be part of the team so I'm happy to have signed my new contract.

"I've said from day one that I love the club and I want to do more for the club. I've been together with these players for a couple of years now, and the spirit is very good.

"And, of course, Harry is the main man. Everyone wants to play for him. We want to achieve great things."

History

Kanu is relishing being part of the club's first campaign in Europe and is confident Pompey can improve on what they achieved last season.

He added: "Scoring at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final and then the final meant a lot to me. We're in the history books now, because this is the first time we're going to be competing in Europe.

"Everybody wants to play in Europe, and being in the Uefa Cup gives us a greater opportunity to attract great players to the club.

"Every footballer should be positive and believe they should do more. We finished eighth last season and we want to improve on that again.

"Personally, I want to do more than I did last season in terms of goals and my all-round football, to work on my weaknesses and give 100 per cent to the club."
