Belhadj: Pompey target

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Algerian international Nadir Belhadj.

The 26-year-old is left-sided and can play as either a full-back or a winger.

Redknapp is believed to have already cast his eye over Belhadj, who wants to quit Lens following their relegation from Ligue 1 last seasom.

Belhadj only moved to the Felix Bollart in January from Lyon, but he is set for a quick exit.

However, Redknapp admits that he can only do a loan deal for the player.

Problem

"I'd like to get the Algerian, but don't know if I can," Redknapp told the Portsmouth News.

"It would only be a loan. That's what we're looking for.

"We have a problem on the right, too.

"We need someone with pace. We have no one there like that at the moment."

Despite Pompey's interest, it is far from certain that Belhadj will be heading to Fratton Park with the likes of Monaco, St Etienne, Hamburg and Celtic all linked.
