Mido is hoping his goal on the opening day of the Premier League campaign will inspire him to a great season.

The Egypt striker came off the bench for Middlesbrough to score the winner against his former club Tottenham.

Mido is battling with the likes of Tuncay and Afonso Alves for a starting place in Saturday's match at Liverpool, but he insists competition is only good for the club.

"The goal will give me confidence for the season and hopefully I can get more goals in the coming games," said Mido.

Healthy

"There's a lot of competition for places, especially up front, and all I can say is that's got to be good for the club.

"It's a healthy situation and the good thing is we have different types of attacking players.

"I'm not the same player as Afonso Alves or Tuncay or Jeremie Aliadiere, which gives the manager options for different games.

"If you are a sub and have to come on you have to prove yourself.

"If I come off the bench I need to do the business and if I start I have to work hard to keep myself in the team.

"My ambition is to keep myself fit and to play as many games as I can."
