Barbatov: In contention this weekend
He's a fantastic player so it would be great for him to stay.
Ramos on Berbatov
Quotes of the week
Juande Ramos insists Dimitar Berbatov remains in contention for selection for Tottenham.
The Bulgaria international's future remains up in the air after he revealed his desire to move to his dream club - believed to be Manchester United.
However, there has been no official bid from The Red Devils for his services, leaving Berbatov to concentrate on his his Spurs career and their weekend fixture against Sunderland.
Ramos left the former Bayer Leverkusen ace on the bench for their season opening defeat to Middlesbrough, although with 48 hours until their game against The Black Cats he cannot guarantee he will start on Saturday.
"It's the same as what we've been saying up until now, there's no difference to that. There's no news on that," Ramos said through an interpreter on Sky Sports News.
When asked if Berbatov will play against Sunderland he replied: "There's two days to go. A lot can happen.
"I'll look at the team, I'll wait until the last training session, see how everyone is in training and then I'll make a decision."
Ramos has kept a close eye on Berbatov in training and he does not believe the 27-year-old has been affected by all the speculation in the media.
"He's an excellent pro," he continued. "He's been working totally independently from anything that might be happening outside of football.
"I think any speculation that you refer to have been handled by his agent. He's just been getting on with things professionally in his training.
"He's our player. He's at our club. He's a fantastic player so it would be great for him to stay."
