Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes Robinho has been badly advised and says the striker will be making a mistake if he leaves the Spanish champions.

Robinho has asked to leave Real in order to join Chelsea, with Calderon previously stating he would not want to keep an unhappy player at the Bernabeu.

Chelsea expressed their confidence earlier this week that Robinho would be moving to Stamford Bridge before the closure of the transfer window.

However, reports have suggested that Real are ready to pull the plug on the deal and Calderon feels Robinho can still have a successful career with the club.

His problem

"I think it's normal that a player says that he wants to leave and in the case of Robinho I accept that as being totally normal," Calderon told Marca.

"It seems to me that it's a mistake, but it's his problem.

"I think that his representatives are advising him very badly and I have a lot of faith in the lad.

"I believe he has a lot of quality and could be successful here. But I say it again that I have to defend the interests of this club in the best manner possible."

Meanwhile, Robinho trained with his Real team-mates on Friday ahead of their opening game of the new Primera Liga season against Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.
