Turnbull: Out of contract next summer

Gareth Southgate has promised Ross Turnbull and Brad Jones that he will be looking at their contract situations over the next few weeks.

Both goalkeepers are out of contract at the end of the season and Southgate is keen for their futures to be resolved.

Southgate decided to show faith in the two youngsters after allowing Mark Schwarzer to move on over the summer and he has been impressed by their performances in the early part of the campaign.

Turnbull has lined up between the posts in six of Middlesbrough's seven league games but Jones is pushing for his place and Southgate is happy with his options.

"I am comfortable with the situation at the moment but it's something I'll be looking at over the next few weeks," Southgate told the Evening Gazette.

"We are giving both keepers an opportunity here, but they have to earn a new contract.

"Ross is still relatively young in goalkeeper terms but he has told me that he wants to stay here in the long term.

"Ross and Brad are getting a chance here and I'll be sitting down and looking at their contract situations shortly."
