Bednar: Very focused

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray believes in-form striker Roman Bednar has a steely determination to do well.

The 25-year-old Czech Republic international has forced his way into the starting line-up and has so far netted three times this term.

His haul includes two penalties, as well as the crucial winner against Fulham which propelled the Baggies into the top half of the table.

This goalscoring record comes as no surprise to Mowbray, although he admits that he does not know if the player's motivation is to get back into the Czech team or to establish his Premier League credentials.

But Mowbray hopes Bednar just keeps finding the net, with a difficult trip to face Man Utd on Saturday the next clash for his high-fliers.

Comical personality

Mowbray told the Express & Star: "Behind that comical personality he's got he's quite a driven individual. When he wasn't in our team and was grumpy I could still see a very focused individual.

"In training, every time he rammed one in the net it was almost a 'did you see that?' scenario.

"He's a very focused guy and I'm pretty sure he sees every 90 minutes as an opportunity at the moment for recognition.

"I don't know what his driving force is. It might be to get into the national team for the Czech Republic.

"It might be to cement a place in our starting line-up, to know he is a stick-on Premier League player for the next ten years and the rewards that go with that.

"That's got to be a driving force for any player."
