Phil Brown insists his Hull City side head into Wednesday's game against Chelsea armed with the belief they are capable of getting a result at the KC Stadium.

Hull's remarkable start to the season saw them pick up their sixth league win of the campaign on Saturday, as they came away from a visit to West Brom with a 3-0 win.

A day later Chelsea lost an unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge which had stretched back to February 2004; a result which means they travel to Hull only ahead of the Premier League new boys on goal difference.

While accepting for all their success this season Hull will start the game as rank underdogs, Brown heads into the clash buoyed by what his players have already achieved to date.

Looking forward

"Where confidence levels are concerned you win the first game (against West Brom) and everyone is looking forward to the Chelsea game now," he told Sky Sports News.

"I'm not getting ahead of myself and saying we'll win the game or even get something from it, but we're confident.

"We can look forward to the game rather than fear it."

Brown concedes his side rode their luck in coming away from The Hawthorns with such a comprehensive victory, accepting West Brom had more than a few decent chances of their own.

"I don't think it's bubbles bursting time," he added. "I think the most important part of this week was the game against West Brom on Saturday.

"We had to make sure we got something from the game and fortunately for us we rode our luck in the first half and converted our chances in the second half.

"It looked like a comprehensive victory but there were times in the game where we had to ride our luck and dig in, which we did.

"We'll have to do that and if any chances do come along, we'll have to take them."

Keen to pay testimony to his players' work-rate this season, Brown has backed his charges to build on the momentum they have generated to date.

"The pressure comes from the mentality of the group, they're demanding it from each other. They are demanding performances from one another.

"I've got the ProZone stats from this weekend's game and these players are working, they're working tirelessly - not for me - but for themselves and one another.

"It's manifesting itself in results and we're going to need all that on Wednesday night.

"We now feel we are capable of getting something from the game."
