Ricardo Gardner admits he was relieved to finally end his Premier League goal drought in Bolton Wanderers' 2-0 win over Manchester City.

The Jamaican midfielder had not scored in the league for almost six years before opening the scoring in Sunday's success.

Gardner turned home Greitar Steinsson's cross to give Bolton the lead and then whipped in the ball which Richard Dunne put into his own net to seal the points.

The long-serving Gardner is now hoping that his next Premier League strike for the Trotters is not another six years in the making.

Relief

"That goal has been a long time coming and it felt great," said Gardner in The Sun.

"It was a relief to see it finish up in the net because when I blasted it against the underside of the bar it could easily have come back out.

"It was a great way for me to repay the way Bolton have stood behind me.

"Now I just hope I don't have to wait too long for my next goal."
