Mark Hughes has revealed the decision to allow Geovanni to quit Man City was taken before his arrival as boss.

The Brazilian has been in scintillating form for the Tigers this term, while Manchester City have struggled in recent weeks and are currently 13th in the Premier League table.

Geovanni only showed glimpses of his talent in his first campaign at Eastlands but Hughes admits he never got the chance to convince him to stay. The City board decided not to offer the Brazilian a new contract at the end of last season.

"The Geovanni situation had been resolved before I came to the club," said Hughes.

"I did not have an opportunity to work with him or speak to him.

"He obviously made a decision to go to Hull and it has worked for him.

"He has made a big impact and shown real quality. The key thing is being able to play every week. That is what wasn't on offer here.

"Players benefit from that and he certainly has."

Castillo

Mexican forward Nery Castillo, meanwhile, has spoken of his desire to head to Spain next season.

Castillo is on loan at City from Shakhtar Donetsk until the end of the year but has struggled to break into Hughes' side.

He was linked with a move to homeland team Guadalajara earlier this week when the club's vice-president Nestor de la Torre claimed a deal had been agreed.

However, Castillo has set his sights on a switch to Spain, saying: "The main thing on my mind is to play for another team, in an important league like the Spanish Primera Liga, which I like a lot."

The forward's agent Juan Carlos Padilla added: "We have possibilities in Spain. We have already signed an agreement with the club's board which will allow us to leave Shakhtar."
