Robinho has voiced his desire to help Manchester City become as big as his former club Real Madrid.

The Brazilian star made a record-breaking £32.5million move to City on transfer deadline day, which came as a huge surprise after being linked with Chelsea all summer.

The 24-year-old soon set himself an ambitious 30-goal target and has already scored seven Premier League goals for City.

Robinho has now pledged his long-term future to the club, who aim to join Real Madrid amongst the game's elite following their takeover by the wealthy Abu Dhabi United Group.

"I hope to play here for many years," he told the Daily Star Sunday.

"I hope to make history at this club and become one of the great heroes at Manchester City. I'm in a very good phase and I hope this will continue.

"I'm enjoying it here, and my aim is to become the best player in the world," Robinho added. "I hope I can do that here.

"I came to City because I saw them growing and making progress.

"Can they be as big as Real Madrid? I hope so, yes."

Further signings

City boss Mark Hughes is expected to have huge funds at his disposal come the January transfer window, with Robinho thought to be the first of several high-profile signings.

Many of the game's top names have been linked with a move to Eastlands, including Robinho's Brazil team-mate Kaka, even though it could cost over £80m to prise him away from AC Milan.

"Kaka's a great player and a great person," said Robinho.

"He's so strong, intelligent and fast. Obviously I'm hoping that I can play with him here at City."
