Carlisle are in talks to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul on loan.

The Cumbrians are in the market for a new keeper after Ben Alnwick returned to Tottenham earlier this week.

Krul is behind Shay Given and Steve Harper in the goalkeeping pecking order at St James' Park and he could be interested in a move away in search of regular first-team action.

Carlisle are hoping to sign the highly-rated Dutchman on loan for a month and are expected to tie up the deal on Friday.

If the deal is completed in time Krul could make his debut against Cheltenham this weekend.
