West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has jumped to the defence of Scott Carson following the incident which led to Germany's goal against England.

Carson was involved in a defensive mix-up with captain John Terry which allowed Patrick Helmes to score for Germany.

Terry, who made up for his role in the goal by scoring the winner, took full responsibility for the mistake in the aftermath of the game.

Mowbray has spoken to Carson and he insists he has no worries about the player's frame of mind ahead of this weekend's clash with Stoke.

"I've spoken to Scott this morning - his mood is fine," Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail.

Not a big issue

"It's not a big issue. It was something which happens in a football match.

"Great credit to John Terry for standing in front of the cameras and saying it was his fault and, as an experienced defender, maybe he should clear those situations.

"It was a misunderstanding between a young goalkeeper and the England captain. Let's not get carried away with the hysteria - it was only a friendly.

"Will that gesture (by Terry) give Scott a lift? I don't know. I think the goalie is fine and he gets on with his job here.

"I just want him to perform for us. I will only judge him on how he gets on against Stoke City this Saturday.

"He's bearing up, his confidence is high, he's positive and looking forward to the weekend. It's no issue for the boy or for me."
