Mark Hughes insists he has no qualms about having to throw Kasper Schmeichel into action this weekend.

The rookie keeper will replace the injured Joe Hart between the sticks for Manchester City on Saturday when they play host to Arsenal.

With Hart expected to be out of action for up to three weeks, with an ankle knock, Schmeichel is also in line to feature in the Manchester derby against arch-rivals United on 30th November.

Despite having to turn to his back-up shot-stopper during a vital stage of the season, Hughes has complete faith in his young Dane to rise to the challenge.

"Kasper has the personality to deal with big games," said the City chief.

Confidence

"He's a very vocal keeper, just like his dad (Manchester United legend Peter), which is a great trait in any goalkeeper.

"He played against United and Arsenal last season and excelled in both games.

"He's a young man with huge self-confidence, which is one of his strengths."

While happy to stick with Schmeichel for now, Hughes did admit on Thursday that he is currently looking to bolster his goalkeeping options.

Former Sweden international Magnus Hedman has been touted as one possibility, but a deal is yet to be reached with the former Coventry and Celtic man.
