Tony Pulis has praised Stoke's character after they responded to being thumped by Manchester United by seeing off fellow new-boys West Brom.

The Potters were turned over 5-0 by The Red Devils last weekend, but returned to winning ways on Saturday courtesy of Mamady Sidibe's winner.

Danny Higginbotham supplied the cross for Sidibe to settle a tense affair at The Britannia, a win that lifts Stoke into 13th spot in the table.

Stoke were already without key striker Ricardo Fuller through injury and things failed to improve once the game kicked off after Dave Kitson collected an early knock.

"I thought we were very, very good today. We've lost Ricardo in our talisman and then Kitson goes off in the first 10 minutes," he told Sky Sports.

Great response

"Having been beaten by Manchester United it was a great response from our players.

"No one could argue we didn't deserve the points today, they looked like they could hurt us on the break but Thomas (Sorensen) has not made a save which is testament to the way we played.

"Every win is crucial. We've shown great character today in bouncing back from the Manchester United defeat."
