Keane: Under pressure
I might wake up on Monday morning and think I'm the right man. On Tuesday it might be different.
Sunderland boss Roy Keane
Quotes of the week
Sunderland manager Roy Keane admits he is considering his future at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats surrendered the lead to lose 4-1 at home to Bolton on Saturday to stoke speculation over Keane's future.
Rumour has consistently linked Keane with the Sunderland exit over the course of the season and the former Manchester United star hinted on Friday that he could leave at the end of the campaign.
But the defeat to Bolton was Sunderland's third successive loss at home and Keane has now suggested that he is constantly assessing life on Wearside.
"I ask myself every single day if I am the right man for Sunderland," he said.
"I asked myself this morning and I said that I was. Tomorrow morning if the answer's no we will have to look at it.
"I have to be honest in my assessment. It's not about what's best for Roy Keane. It's Sunderland football club.
"I might wake up on Monday morning and think I'm the right man. On Tuesday it might be different.
"I'm the manager of this football club and ultimately I'm responsible and I've never shied away from that.
"That's part of being a manager and that's why I take full responsibility for today and the run we're on and everything else."

The boo boys are out for blood again at the SOL - a minority of part timers who want instant gratification and the right to do nothing more than shout and complain for 90 minutes. Surely we all pay our hard earned money to SUPPORT our team? If you want to shout and scream abuse there are a group of supporters just up the road who will welcome you with open arms. Wake up! - the impact of Keane leaving would be devastating, it would trigger a mass exodus of players and investors, bringing the club to its knees. We will NEVER attract another manager as high profile as Keane, and we NEED someone of his stature to lure players away from European clubs and the glitz of London to the North East. Who in their right mind would take over from him anyway? Please leave the pessimism for the pub and sing your hearts out at the ground before we end up with a Kinnear of our own!

Keane should sign his contract and stop fuelling rumours that he is leaving all of sunderland should be behind him he is trying to build a premiership team to stay in the premiership. His loyalty to Nossa and Deano is commendable but he must realise that they are just not good enough replace them in January if you can YOU MUST SIGN YOUR CONTRACT NOW

Roy needs to sign a ten year contract as soon as possible. I have been a Sunderland supporter since 1957. He has the quality to be the best all time manager. He will have a few more downs in his career, either with Sunderland or any other club he may take on. He has to accept this is all part of the learning curve. The team who had the longest reign in top flight need to now to aim for those glory years again. Roy Keane is the man to do it.There are plenty in football who do not want Sunderland or any North East Teams in the Premier League, why should they travel to the SOL when all other clubs are closer. Stick with us Roy you are the best.

Cant believe the Sunderland fans saying for Keane to go. What a load of rubbish. Its time to back the man and the team. The season's a marathon not a sprint. Come the end of the season we'll be alright. This bad patch will only serve to make Roy a better manager. Im sick to death of idiot fans just wanting a quick fix. For the mags out there we'll finish above you this season. You're going down! Get in Kieran lad! GET BEHIND KEANO SUNDERLAND FANS!!!!

Roy Keane is the best thing that has happened to Sunderland Football Club in recent history. Never has the team had the same ambition, drive and quality capable of actually achieving the consistent levels of success in the Premiership expected by the fans and required of such a great club. Roy Keane has brought players that would never have come to Wearside prior to his arrival and a sense of belief that Sunderland can go somewhere in football and not remain the persistent underachieving pessimistic club it used to be.

I am a life long Sunderland fan and have supported the club through thick and thin I have had a season ticket for several years to include Roker park and to be honest what I witnessed on saturday against Bolton was no surprise at all, Roy Keane has been making fundamental mistakes all season and last season for that matter, the quality of the players has improved this season but the team spirit has evaporated,we have no leader,no width,no direction and the majority of players doent seem to know where they are playing,we have better players out on loan than some of the players turning out and the only person to blame must be Roy Keane and the most frightening thing about the whole situation is I dont believe that Mr Keane can see it.Some of the players he bought are nothing short of a joke, were these players not watched before we bought them? The infra structure is excellent at Sunderland and Mr Quinn and the board are doing a very good job lifting the profile of SAFc so please before we slip into a situation we cannot get out of walk away Mr Keane and lets get someone in who can keep us in the premier league. Thanks for getting us there and dont let pride keep you in a job that is becoming increasingly obvious is above your station.

Right lets get one thing straight man utd fans... a minority...and yes i believe minority of fans would like him to go, so please stop talking about the opinion of sunderlands fans because it does not revolve around a comment box. As for the current situation I believe it is a case of weighing up the pros and cons really, the man has spent £80m and where 18th, hes (in my opinion) said hes going and at times his stubborness has cost our team games or pride (example chelsea the other week). On the other hand, the man transformed the club from embarrasment and failure, got rid of the waste and identified places needed strengthening be that in the club as a whole as well as the team. I never ever thought I would compare us to Middlesborough but look at some of the occasional results they get under southgate!... but they stick by him and come the end of the seasons so far its paid off. The opinion our expectations is too high though is a hideous call to make we have endured more pain supporting our club than some of you fans have experience in your life time of surpporting a football team. Me personally, a stay in the premier league each other and building foundations each year sounds good, I cringe at the thought of a 15 point season again CRINGE.

Roy Keane got a chance that virtually no manager before him ever got: almost unlimited funds and a very low standard of success required. I can think of about a hundred managers who, given the sort of money he got and the sort of support Sunderland achieve, would be near the top of the Premier Division now. How many players has he bought? about 60, 70 ? The fact is that he knows absolutely nothing about football management or indeed any sort of management. Sunderland have wasted the opportunity that the consortium's money might have given them. The best thing they can do now is cut their losses, sack him and get a decent manager before the funds run out.

We are only 5 points outside europe! This season is like no other, its difficult to see improvement on the table, yeah we have had a bad run but a month ago we were doing brilliant. One bad month shudn't end his career for us. We should get behind Keane just like borough have got behind Southgate, all young managers make alot of mistakes. Watching us now compared to last season you can see improvement. Last season we mostly only won by last minute scrapping in the box. Now we are scoring goals more of prem quality. Already Cisse has only one goal less than our top goal scorer of last season. Our home forms been worse this season but our away form has improved! Stop bringing up how much Keane has spent and look at where we were before he came. Without Keane we will fall apart, the best of the players he signed admitted working with Keane was a big factor in signing for the club. Keane has had alot to do, he hasn't just had to manage he's had to build a football club! Get behind him if your a real fan, don't be fickle with big expectations, especially this season when teams like Hull having a good run and stoke are beating Arsenal, in this type of season they are ten teams in the relegation scrap, so we need the battle of roy keane to get us out! we can emulate what blackburn, everton and portsmouth have done in the past. Get behind Keane and the team, they is alot happening at the club, have faith.

Those Sunderland 'fans' calling for Keano's head make me sick. You lot have very short memories. Roy Keane is the reason your not in League one. Much like your neighbours on Tyneside you are very badly deluded, ''were a big club blah blah blah blah''. Absolute nonsense. You are all experts on football, you know better than anyone else dont you. I recall Keegan having to stand on the steps at St. James' defending his decision to sell andrew cole to man united, and one of the fans said you have sold our best player to our biggest rivals when two seasons previous newcastles biggest rivals were wycombe wanderers. Sunderland fans like Newcastle fans need to wake up and smell the coffee. You dont know how lucky you are to have Keane as your manager, you really dont deserve him and i for one am looking forward to seeing you end up like newcastle, a club more interested in sacking managers than football results, look were it got them. Thats in the post black cats and you deserve it. Big club? dont make me laugh. Badly badly badly deluded.

Keaneo time to go. You say you learn from your mistakes, I dont think so!!! I didnt think it could get any worse after West Ham last week, how wrong was I? Yesterday that performance was disgracefull. We were out fought and made to look like a pub team by a very poor Bolton team. Insisting on playing (possibly the worst captian the club has had) Dean Whitehead is a joke. £80m in 2 seasons now call me crazy, but there HAS to be results for that. Easy game next week - Man Utd away long journey home from that!!! SUNDERLAND TILL I DIE!!!

Its the McCarthy curse because Keane thought he was better than McCarthy. I suspect part of the reason he took the Sunderland job was to prove he could excel where McCarthy failed!!!!!

Cant believe the sunderland fans...they seem to be a very impatient and extremely forgetful. Just over 2 years ago they were bottom of the Championship...what do they expect, top 4 finish. It takes years to build a successful football club. Roy has only been there a bit over 2 years. Hes brought ye from the gutter to a premiership club and now ye want rid when the goins got a bit tough...alot of people were singing his praises only a few months back when they bet newcastle for the first time in ages. I nearly hope now that he does go to another club and if he does, sunderland willl b a championship club within 2 seasons again. And who will ye get to replace him??whos goin to want to manage a team with fans down ur back constantly. Im all for fans voicing there grievances with players and managers, its only right, but to be booing ur team alot of the time says alot about the supporters really

Roy Keane is slowly coming to terms with his inexperience at the top level. He is also struggling to restructure his mind frame from that of the Old Trafford. People should remember that it is for the same reason that he prematurely exited Old Trafford....High expectations of his team mates/players. Alex Ferguson can get away with that kind of ruthlessness because he has got the experience/history to back him up and players easily respect him. Roy like Gallas has very high standards but appears to be struggling to sell the objectives to the players. Unfortunately for Sunderland to survive as a business they need no armature. There is no doubt that Roy has got the potential to be a good manager but it is for later not now as we have seen with Reading's Copell. It is not a coincidence that every year we have teams managed by the young and inexperienced managers relegated. Well done this far to Roy Keane this far. The other unfortunate thing is that Sunderland is very badly located to attract very good players...Roy had to settle for reject players whom nobody else wanted hence the failure to deliver.

Roy Keane is a good man,but perhaps you can be too honest!...He is manager of a club that will always be in the shadow of their more illustrious neighbours,Newcastle United.I think Sunderland fans should realise that they are top championship side or lower premiership side at best, and I think they have to lower their expectations...

Keano has the making of a world class manager, he is strong minded and commands respect from everyone, its just the poor quality of players in certain areas that have let him down, the defence aint great, i think if he rides this out he will become a sunderland legend, lets face it what do sunderland fans expect, i would suggest just staving off relegation this year would be more than goo enough.

I think Keano has done a great job getting Sunderland into the premierhip when he first took over. However now he has spent alot of money and spent on players that wont get there head down and get stuck in and only has himself to blame. I think he has finished for Sunderland but not finished in managment because think he will learn from these mistakes and eventually at another club make it. Celtic maybe not out of the question easiest league in the world in my opinon. SO NOT OVER YET KEANO!!
