Benfica striker Freddy Adu has spoken of his desire to one day play in the Premier League for his boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur.

Adu is currently on loan at French side Monaco and hit the headlines a number of years back for being touted as the next big thing in world football.

Still only 19-years-old Adu's career has failed to live up the heights that were expected of him when he burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old for DC United in America's MLS.

After starting out at D.C. United Adu moved to Real Salt Lake City before joining Benfica in 2007 from where he has joined Monaco on loan.

Adu told ESPN: "My dream is to play for one of the top European clubs, the top five.

"Tottenham are also one of my dreams, since I supported them as a boy. My objective is the Premier League, which is for me the best league in the world."
