West Brom striker Ishmael Miller is set to be sidelined for at least six weeks with a medial knee ligament injury.

Miller picked up the problem as he challenged for the ball with David James in the Baggies' 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.

He was quickly taken for a scan and it has now been confirmed that he will be out of action for some time.

The 21-year-old, who has often played as a lone front man this season, will therefore miss the busy Christmas period.

Miller is not likely to return until late January and manager Tony Mowbray accepts it is a major blow to lose him.

"It is an injury we could do without," Mowbray told Sky Sports.

"He has done exceptionally well and scored a few goals for us. It will be a big miss for us."
