Shearer: Concerned
Alan Shearer has warned Blackburn Rovers that they will need to spend to avoid Premier League relegation.
Paul Ince was sacked on Tuesday after the Ewood Park board lost patience with the former MK Dons manager following a run of three league wins in 17 games.
Ex-Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce and former Rovers chief Graeme Souness have been installed as favourites to succeed Ince, but Shearer believes it will take more than a new man at the helm to save his old club.
Shearer, a legend at Blackburn in his playing days and a rumoured managerial candidate, believes the club must make funds available to the eventual new occupant of their hot-seat to allow for squad reinforcements.
"They need to spend in the transfer window because the squad has clearly not got the strength it needs," the former England captain said in The Sun.
"If they go down they could find it very difficult to come back up because it is getting much harder for clubs to bounce back.
"I think Blackburn see themselves as a top-10 club and so they should.
"Well if they want to be that they are clearly going to have to spend."
