AZ Alkmaar have confirmed an interest in signing Blackburn Rovers defender Andre Ooijer.

Holland international Ooijer is out of contract at the end of the season and has previously suggested he will return home when his Rovers deal expires.

However, the experienced stopper could be offered a January move back to the Eredivisie by league leaders AZ.

Reigning champions PSV Eindhoven have previously expressed an interest, and now AZ have joined the chase for Ooijer.

"From a footballing perspective we would like to sign him for the club," AZ technical director Marcel Brands told Voetbal International.

"But the problem is that you don't sign Andre for the bench, so then you must put another player on the bench.

"Maybe that would result in disruption rather than calm."
