All this about selling this player and that player, it's utter rubbish.

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie will offer manager Tony Adams the opportunity to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

On-loan defender Nadir Belhadj agreed a permanent deal at Fratton Park on Tuesday and there could be more signings in the New Year, with Storrie revealing the club have targeted 'two or three' players.

Pompey are struggling in the Premier League, losing their last five matches, and Storrie - who states discussions with targets are taking place - has pledged money for reinforcements.

However, it is not certain Adams will wield the chequebook in the winter window, with the Pompey boss said to be focusing his attention on summer acquisitions.

Money

"I never talk about money but Tony will be given the means if he wants to strengthen the squad," Storrie told the Portsmouth News.

"From talking to him I know he is looking to do most of his business in the summer. That's when he feels we will get more value for money and more players are available.

"But we are still talking to people now and are looking to bring in two or three during the transfer window to improve the squad."

Portsmouth duo Glen Johnson and Jermain Defoe have both been linked with moves elsewhere but Storrie insists the club are not in a position where they have to sell.

Rubbish

"All this about selling this player and that player, it's utter rubbish," he added. "We are primarily looking to recruit and are planning to bring players in.

"It would take something exceptional or the player wanting to move on somewhere for anyone else to leave."

Meanwhile, fringe players Lauren and Richard Duffy have been told they are free to leave the South Coast outfit.

Storrie added: "Lauren and Duffy have asked if they can leave in January and we have said they can.

"They have to find new clubs, however, and their agents are currently circulating their names."
